Cooper-backed Hansen claims fastest lap in Norway

Friday 21 June 2013

Cooper Tire-supported Rallycross star, Timmy Hansen, put in another stunning performance at round five of the FIA European Rallycross Championship, claiming the fastest lap of the weekend for the third event in a row.
The 21-year-old Swede endured a challenging event at the Hell circuit in Norway, struggling with traffic in the early heats, which put him on the back foot. Once in clean air, Hansen was able to show his true pace, bagging the fastest lap of the weekend as he once again impressed on the international stage.
Hansen’s spate of bad luck continued into the semi-final, when a hydraulic issue affecting the clutch caused him to jump the start, for which he was forced to take two ‘joker’ laps. Determined not to give up, Hansen fought back valiantly, to catch the pack by the end of the final tour.
A philosophical Hansen said, “It was just one of those weekends; you have them, but we did score valuable championship points and we are still second overall heading into my home race in Sweden in three weeks. I have only ever raced properly in Sweden once, so Höljes is like my first big event near home.”
In his maiden rallycross season, Hansen – son of 14-time European Rallycross Champion, Kenneth – currently lies second in the Supercar standings, 13 points adrift of team-mate and reigning champion, Timur Timerzyanov.
The next round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship takes place at Höljes, Sweden, over the weekend of July 6/7.
