A five-part documentary following the Cooper Tire-supported Race2Recovery Dakar Rally team will première on Eurosport this Christmas.
Produced by Gaucho Productions and directed by award-winning director Tim Pritchard, the documentary charts the remarkable journey of the Race2Recovery team from the battlefield to the start of the 2013 Dakar Rally. The programmes deliver a detailed insight into the team and its incredible accomplishments as it prepares for a battle of a different kind – the gruelling 9,000-km desert classic.
The team will use Cooper’s aggressive Discoverer STT tyre, which boasts the innovative Armor-Tek3 heavy duty carcass, in their quest to become the first-ever team of disabled service personnel and veterans to complete the rally.
Capturing the highs and lows of the team – from the moment they learnt to navigate the demanding conditions of the desert, to the point at which financial constraints looked set to dash any hopes of completing the challenge – and everything else in between - the series brings the trials and tribulations of the awe-inspiring team to the wider public.
With the preparations now complete, it’s just a matter of weeks before the Race2Recovery squad, which is predominantly made up of injured servicemen from the UK and America, embarks on the 15-day endurance race, beginning in Lima, Peru, on 5 Januaryand ending in Santiago, Chile, on 20 January.
Sarah McRoberts, European Marketing Manager for Cooper Tire Europe, has worked with the Race2Recovery team throughout its training programme and said of the documentary, “What the Race2Recovery team is looking to achieve – and what it has already achieved – is quite staggering and it’s great that the documentary brings their challenge and experiences to a wider audience. I’m sure the series will inspire a great deal of people and will hopefully encourage them to follow the team as it embarks on this great challenge.”
Alistair Weaver, Executive Producer, Gaucho Productions said: “It’s been a real privilege to follow the Race2Recovery team on their journey to the Dakar. This is a story that works on so many levels: it’s a story of human will in the face of adversity with some awesome machines and a beautiful backdrop. It’s a story that needed telling and we’re proud to have played our part in bringing it to life.”
Race2Recovery – The Road to Dakar will premiere Christmas Eve on British Eurosport and run until 4th January 2013.
